From vamp to tramp! Lindsay Lohan stumbles back to her plush London hotel looking dishevelled

It was all going so well.

She may have had a few stumbles along the way but Lindsay Lohan stepped out of her plush London hotel looking every inch the Hollywood starlet on New Year's Eve morning - and with plans for a quiet dinner with friends, everything appeared to be uncharacteristically low-key.

UntIl, that is, a few hours later when Lindsay was seen walking into the Dorchester in a decidedly scruffy outfit more suited to gardening than entering one of the plushest hotels in London.

As she wandered into the hotel, Lohan, who seemed to be wearing an middle-aged man's jacket, was helped by a security guard who guided her past stunned onlookers.

Her striped top was uncharacteristically baggy and had an array of odd stains which surely weren't picked up in plush department store Harrods, where she had been earlier.

Perhaps the 26-year-old was simply tired as she had been shopping up a storm in the high end department store while carrying a Hermes Birkin bag, despite struggling to pay her mounting legal bills.

The 'Liz & Dick' star has been seen wearing an array of faux fur coats and on December 30 was in a wonderful mood, blowing kisses to bystanders outside the celebrity hotspot's entrance in Mayfair, smiling and hugging her coat close.

Underneath the wrap, she was wearing a white A-line mini dress.

But it was a different story on New Year's Eve evening as she kept her head down and her wild hair scraped back.

Lindsay, whose probation was revoked earlier this month after she allegedly lied about driving her Porsche during a car crash in June - said earlier on New Year's Eve that she feels blessed to be able to spend time with her loved ones and is hoping 2013 brings good things her way amid reports she is facing a possible eight months in jail.

The 26-year-old actress wrote on her Twitter page: 'I feel very blessed to be able to spend time w/ my mom, family&very wonderful friends. Very grateful.. May only good things come this year. (sic)'

The actress - who is rumoured to have signed up to star on 'Celebrity Big Brother' for two weeks before her next court appearance on January 15 .

This makes three! Lindsay sported a grey fur coat - and pretty pink handbag - as she returned to her London hotel after shopping at Harrods

Lindsay was recently said to have admitted to her friends that she had hit rock bottom and needed professional help but claimed she didn't have the money to hire a psychiatrist as she is currently in debt.

The actress was given $100,000 from her friend Charlie Sheen to help cover her enormous tax bill.

Lindsay Lohan was arrested in New York during the early hours of Wednesday morning on charges that she clipped a pedestrian with her car and did not stop, police have confirmed.

The Liz & Dick star was preparing to park her Porsche Cayenne at the Dream Hotel in Manhattan at 12.30am when she allegedly hit the knee of an unnamed man in his 30s.

One of Lindsay's passengers got out and checked her vehicle for damage, and then the group went into the hotel to attend an event, US gossip website TMZ reports.

When Lindsay emerged from the venue at 2.30am, police were said to be waiting for her and she was arrested.

The 26-year-old star was booked for the misdemeanour offence of leaving the scene of an accident and released with a desk appearance ticket, meaning she did not have to pay bail before release.

The alleged victim was not knocked down by the vehicle and had no visible injuries, but was still taken to hospital.

However, Lindsay is now reportedly telling friends she had no idea she even hit anyone, and it wasn't until she emerged from the hotel and was arrested that she knew anything was going on, TMZ reports.

Describing the incident as 'really fishy', the troubled star is said to believe she is the victim of a 'set up' and is planning on fighting the claims until the very end.

Though the offence is a misdemeanour, it could trigger a probation violation in the Mean Girls star's 2011 jewellery theft case as one of the conditions of probation is that she obeys all laws.

This is not the first time the actress had been involved in a car crash.

In June of this year Lindsay smashed up another Porsche after claiming she was cut up by a truck.

The actress later blamed the manufacturing of the vehicle but tests carried out after the crash found the breaks were working fine.

In May of 2007, Lindsay was arrested on suspicion of drinking under the influence and this led to her heading for rehab for 45 days.

In July of that year, Lindsay refused to take a sobriety test and was taken to a police station where her blood alcohol level was over the limit. She also had some cocaine in her pocket.

Lindsay, who spent 23 days in jail after violating her probation agreement following a DUI, took to her Twitter page recently to blast law enforcement officers for not doing more to stop actress Amanda Bynes who was caught driving with a suspended licence recently.

She tweeted: 'Why did I get put in jail and a nickelodeon star has had NO punishment(s) so far?'

Last month, Lohan was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department over the purported theft of $100,000 worth of luxury items from the home of her multimillionaire friend Sam Magid.

The L.A. County District Attorney dropped burglary charges due to 'insufficient evidence'.

After being charged with misdemenour theft and probation violation in February 2011 following the shoplifting of a necklace from a Venice Beach store, Lindsay was sentenced to 120 days in jail and 480 hours of community service.

In addition, she was also ordered to remain under supervision whilst completing all of her community service.

The actress pleaded no contest in court, and was put under house arrest complete with ankle bracelet monitor due to jail overcrowding.

Lindsay was then later sentenced to 30 days in jail and 400 hours of community service in November, after she was found guilty of violating her probation because she failed to perform her community service at a Los Angeles morgue.

She entered jail on November 7, 2011, but was released after just under five hours, again due to overcrowding.

The actress finally ended her supervised probation in March this year after fulfilling all of her community service and therapy requirements.

And despite being involved in the hit and run and car crash earlier this year, has remained relatively out of trouble.

She is currently trying to get her life and career back on track, and recently completed filming Liz & Dick, the Lifetime Elizabeth Taylor biopic, and independent film, The Canyons, written by Bret Easton Ellis and directed by Paul Schrader.

A spokesperson for Lindsay refused to comment to MailOnline.

Lindsay Lohan struggles to defy gravity in backless halterneck top

With her Chanel shades, it's clear Lindsay Lohan can afford a bra too whether designer or WalMart.

Yet it appeared to have slipped the Mean Girls actress' mind when she was getting ready yesterday.

The 26-year-old was seen shopping at a vintage store in Venice without any support for her rather ample 36D bust, causing them to sag a little as she showed off sideboob during a cigarette break.

Arguably, the white halterneck wouldn't have had quite the same summer chill-out look with a chunky bra strap ruining the backless effect, but an underwire bikini top wouldn't have gone amiss.

Unfortunately for LiLo, the downside of being blessed with a generous bosom often means they have a little difficulty defying gravity and a tendency to go walkies south.

But unlike the plastic fantastic stars of Tinseltown, it is no doubt refreshing to see someone proud of their natural curves.

Lindsay teamed the look with white pumps, a pair of denim shorts and a chunky silver bracelet.

And it seems the arduous task of shopping proved a tad strenuous on the New Yorker, as Lohan soon needed a cigarette break halfway through scouring the rails of the Los Angeles store.

During an interview with Cosmopolitan, Lindsay previously confessed: 'I don't really like talking about it, but last I checked it was 36D.'

She also told Cosmo Girl in 2005: 'I developed late in school. When I was 16, I still had baby fat. I didn't get my chest until I was 17, so that made me insecure. I used to feel like I had to stuff my bra.'

However, last December, Lindsay was far from shy about her figure as she posed for Playboy.

At the time she revealed: 'Sex and sexuality are a part of nature, and I go along with nature. I think Marilyn Monroe said that, and I agree with her.

'It’s a very male-dominated world, so knowing yourself and being comfortable with your body is an important thing for me as a woman.'

The redhead, shopping yesterday with brother Cody, has just wrapped filming on The Canyons, starring alongside porn star James Deen in the Bret Easton Ellis scripted film.

And following a career nosedive that threatened to send her spiralling into oblivion, LiLo is back on track with roles in Machete Kills, Scary Movie 5 and the recently completed Liz & Dick.

But it appears Lindsay Lohan may have taken some tips from her new BFF Lady Gaga when it comes to how to wow with the fewest amount of clothes.

The 26-year-old actress showed off her curves in an incredibly daring white swimsuit as she enjoyed a dip at her hotel in Hollywood over the weekend.

The one-piece featured a plunging white front which drew attention to Lindsay's ample cleavage as she strolled along poolside.

As she made her way to the pool after a cooling dip, Lindsay covered up somewhat in a white dressing gown and red pumps.

The swimsuit is something of a departure from Lindsay's usual style, with the actress usually favouring bikinis to show off her figure to its full potential.

And now Gaga is said to be keen to sign Lindsay up for the video for one of her new tracks.

With her phone and a bottle of Sprite in hand, the actress was seen looking around the boutique as unsurprisingly a few gems caught her eye.

And she certainly looked in need of some new threads.. as her own looked very worn and distressed.

Light-fingered Lindsay has got herself in a spot of bother previously after her failure to pay for some jewellery. But it seems she's put her gem appreciating ways behind her.
